This week the Friends and Canines Team made a more unusual delivery. We had an order from the team at Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre in Eccleshall.
So as we love all animals we took the opportunity to visit Gentleshaw and hand-deliver the goodies and we were lucky enough to be allowed to meet Saxon, a hybrid wolf dog. We specially selected him the new lamb leg with fur, as an extra little treat from us. They couldn’t restrict giving it Saxon straight after our cuddles, he took it straight up to his favourite spot, in the viewing window and had a good chomp! It lasted him a good 20 minutes, they were really impressed, as was Saxon!
We got to talk to Quaver, the singing dog and got a lick from him and he enjoyed his first dried duck neck, which made a very nice chew for him.
Next, the raccoons, Rascal, Bonnie, Ronnie & Reggie, Elmo & Barry got some treats. They tried the sprats, fish cubes and chicken sticks today, which were a hit.
They were some other goodies in the order to be shared out with some other animals, the team at Gentleshaw are going to keep us updated with who likes what!!
Tragically there was a fire at Gentleshaw earlier this year, in which sadly some animals lost their lives and an enclosure was lost.
Inspired by our visit today, we have set up a Gentleshaw WishList on the page where you can buy treats, just pop in the special instructions box at checkout, please deliver directly to Gentleshaw, and we will put them in a box and deliver them regularly, and add an extra 15% to all donations.
Why not go for a visit yourself? There is also a cafe, mini train, and crazy golf so why not make it a day out.
They would also love donations of any enrichment toys for dogs, parrots, monkeys etc so if you have any your animals don’t use please think of them or can be donated to us to take along.
You can also donate directly to Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, a registered charity, it is a small sanctuary for exotic animals and birds of prey. As well as a hospital unit for the treatment of wild raptors, (not on display), the Centre is home to over 30 different species of Bird of prey, Primate, Reptile, Invertebrate, Raccoons, Cats and many more.
