Do you still eat stews in summer, or do you switch to salads, cooler foods, and more fruit?

What about your dog? Do you give them a choice? Do they have a winter and summer diet?

Did you know different foods can help cool your dog down this summer?

What cooling foods can you add to your dog’s diet?

Water-rich foods like courgette, broccoli, kale, spinach, watermelon, cucumber, and bananas are a fab addition to your dog’s diet but especially in spring and summer when the extra water is needed in their body.

And can be extra cooling as they add the water directly into your dog’s body.

Also, I highly recommend a fresh rather than dry diet for this reason too.

What about your dog’s supplements?

Do you know some supplements can be warming for joints and the blood so you may try to reduce these or change them in warmer weather, plus some conditions are worse in colder weather so the supplements may not be needed as much anyway!

For example, turmeric is often used for joint issues but is warming, why not try green-lipped mussel instead

*Always check with your vet before changing your dog’s prescribed medicine.

Have you heard of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) food energetics?

Allergic dogs should eat cooling foods such as fish, duck, and rabbit. Cooling foods help to bring down inflammation throughout the body. Foods like venison and lamb are considered the warmest of proteins and, to an allergic dog, would greatly increase the heat in the body and the allergic reaction.

What about frozen treats?

What about freezing some of your dog’s regular chews? Chews like tracheas, beef honeycombs, and hooves can be rinsed in water, or filled with their dinner and frozen for a yummy frozen treat.

What about making some homemade doggy ice cream? You can easily, blend some fruit and vegetables, add some sugar-free yogurt, or kefir, and freeze. Or what about some blended meat or baby food?  You can be inventive and use chew sticks or chicken feet as a handle or spoon out into a bowl.
